What Are the Policies of the Current Regime?

Patrick Monaghan

A Word from T. Patrick Monaghan, Executive Director

The chief policy of the current regime is murder. The child is removed from the womb, except for a portion of his head, stabbed with scissors or another sharp object, and his brain extracted. This barbaric practice has been legislated against by Congress, and many states have outlawed the practice. Yet, the "leader of the free world" steadfastly and dutifully defends it. There are no words that can adequately describe and detail the absolute indignation and contempt that must arise in the heart of any human in the face of this practice. The wilfull and deliberate killing of a child is beyond the pale of normal human discourse and those who do it or defend it forfeit any right to be taken seriously as to their "views" or moral status. Their legacy is anathema. They risk, "Depart from me, I do not know you."

All of our current public discussion takes place in a surreal nightmarish fog. The public discussions on talk shows and news programs are like debating litter, smoking, and traffic laws in an operating death camp. No longer in touch with reality, concerned with those issues that matter most, we fritter away the remaining years of this millenium consumed with trivial anxieties.

It has been observed that the devil is a proud spirit that cannot standeth scorn. The observations of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, written while imprisoned by the Nazis, are most relevant: "folly is a more dangerous enemy to the good than evil . . . Evil always carries the seeds of its own destruction, as it makes people, at least, uncomfortable. Against folly we have no defense . . . The fool as distinct from the scoundrel, is completely self satisfied; in fact, he can easily become dangerous, as it does not take much to make them aggressive. A fool must therefore be treated more cautiously than a scoundrel . . . The power of some needs the folly of others . . . One feels in fact, when talking [to the fool] that one is dealing, not with a man himself, but with slogans, catch words, and alike, which are taken hold him. He is under a spell, he is blinded, his very nature is being misused in exploited. Having thus become a passive instrument, the fool is capable of any evil and at the same time incapable of seeing that it is evil. Here lies the danger of a diabolical exploitation that can do irreparable damage to human beings."

Thus, governed as we are by a ship of fools and scoundrels, we must commit ourselves to a prayer filled way of life, as we wait in hope that in God's time we will be given a place to stand wherein God's truth will be heard and lived. Therefore, let us be careful to not despair or drift into an attitude of contempt for humanity, for the worst in the fools and scoundrels is not wholly absent from ourselves. With grace and humor, we must persevere in the vineyards Our Lord has given us to labor. We are called to peace and happiness even as we confront the evil of this day. How happy we should be if we do not take part in the public lie that defines the current regime. So let us proceed in prayer, dedication and good spirits, with scorn and ridicule for the scoundrel and a prudent wariness for the fool, as we live, witness, and glory in God's gifts to us. After all, we labor to hear those words of the only true legacy than any man should seek, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
