Objection to Payments to Unions Supporting Ungodly Causes

Would you pay an organization to fight against you on issues like abortion, homosexuality, religious freedom, and parental rights?

Many employees do so, frequently without even knowing what is happening.

The mechanism: payments to unions.

Not every union champions ungodly cases. But some do -- like the National Education Association (NEA), which has taken a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual position, and which alone has millions of teachers filling its war chest for ideological battle. Or AFSCME, which has also taken a pro-abortion position.

Is there a way to stop funding your own opponents from your salary through union assessments?

Yes.

First, you have an absolute right to resign from the union. Second, many employees who are not union members have no financial obligations to the union. Even in those states where employers and unions have the legal right to compel employees to pay union fees, nonunion employees have an absolute right to keep the union from using their money to support ungodly causes. And if in good conscience you cannot support the union at all (for example, because it is pro-abortion), you may be able give the full amount of your payment to a charity instead.

You don't have to surrender your hard-earned money to those who attack what you believe in.

A valuable resource on this issue is the National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation, 8001 Braddock Road, Suite 600, Springfield, VA 22160, (800) 336-3600. You can visit their website at http://www.nrtw.org for free information. This group specializes in helping, at no charge, employees who are tired of funding those on the opposite side of the issues they hold dear.

If you know of someone who might benefit from this information, pass it on!
